Estancia Merlot 2010

Type: Merlot
Year: 2010
Price: 9.99
         8.99 (Sat. Oct. 26th 2013 - Otto's Brown Deer)
Rating: 4 - Would definitely buy again
Where Bought: Otto's Brown Deer
Update: (Oct. 26th 2013) Consistantly good. Howver, it's interesting that the regular price seems to have dropped. If this is the case, it's an even better buy.
Update: (Sept. 28th 2013) We purchased another bottle of Estancia Merlot 2010. So far, it consistently delivers great full body taste. I would say, it seems to exceed their Cabernet. We'll keep trying it as long as it continues to consistently provide a great tasting wine.
Comments: We purchased a 2010 version of the Estancia Merlot and it was fantastic. It consistently delivered, like its 2009 version a full body flavor not usually found in Merlot's.Another wine we would definitely buy again. (I haven't updated the price or purchase location, since I must have misplaced this purchase).

Vitiano Cabernet Sauvignon Sangiovese - Merlot 2009

Type: Merlot
Year: 2009
Price: 11.99
Rating: 2 - Probably won't buy again

Comments: It was a nice wine. Nothing against it, but just one of those that we may not have an opportunity to try again, with so many choices available to us. Overall, a nice wine.

J Lohr Paso Robles Merlot 2009

Type: Merlot
Year: 2009
Price: 9.99 (Marked down from 11.99, Nov 19th 2011)
Rating: 4 - Would definitely buy again
Where Bought: Otto's Brown Deer
Comments: J Lohr has always made a nice consistent red wine. Both Merlot and Cabernet's from J Lohr are exceptionally tasty, full bodied and consistent. I would definitely buy this wine again. It's getting harder to determine which wines get the full rating of 5 - One of my favorites. So many great wines to choose between.

Estancia Merlot Central Coast 2009

Type: Merlot
Year: 2009
Price: 9.99 (marked down to 8.99 - Sept. 17th 2011)
Rating: 4 - Would definitely buy again
Where Bought: Otto's Brown Deer
Comments: I rated this wine "Would definitely buy again", since it was a full bodied Merlot. Generally, I haven't experienced that much body from a Merlot. Usually, this is more of a trait of a Cabernet. Also, the Estancia brand, has generally been very good, so we will probably be buying more of their Merlots and Cabernet's.

J. Lohr Los Osos, Paso Robles Merlot 2008

Type: Merlot
Year: 2008
Price: 9.99 (Discounted from 11.99)
Rating: 4 - Would definitely buy again
Where Bought: Otto's Brown Deer
Comments: Nice tasting wine. Consistent of the J. Lohr brand a very nice wine. I believe my preference continues to be the J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon, however, this wine does well to stand up on its own merit. I would definitely try it again. I hope that it remains consistent from bottle to bottle.

Clos du Bois Merlot 2007

Type: Merlot
Year: 2007
Price: 13.99
          (13.99 - Otto's Brown Deer, Dec 15th 2012)
Rating: 3 - Will try it again
Where Bought: Pick N' Save
Comments: Clos du Bois has been a consistant staple merlot for me in the past. I was always satisfied with their flavor, texture and full bodied taste. The reason I gave this one a rating of only 3, is because for the first time, it didn't live up to my expectations. It seemed a little on the lighter side, but definitely still a good taste. Perhaps I have been enjoying Cabernet's lately and caused this Merlot to be lighter on the palette ? To see how this 2007 Merlot compares to its own predessessor's, see my posts on the Clos du Bois Merlot 2003 and the Clos du Bois Merlot 2005. Either way, I still like it and would like to continue giving it another try. I won't give up on this great tasting wine that easily !

Estancia Merlot 2008 Central Coast

Type: Merlot (Central Coast)
Year: 2008
Price: 9.99 (Marked down from 12.99)
11.99 - Dec. 17th 2010
Rating: 4 - Would definitely buy again
Where Bought: Otto's Brown Deer
Pick N' Save - Dec. 17th 2010
Comments: This was a pleasantly surprising nicely bodied wine. The reason I say surprising, is that with the exception of a few, most Merlot's seem a little on the light side. Perhaps, this is due to the fact that I like Cabernet's which are generally a heavier full-bodied wine. Anyway, this one was very nice and perhaps its the grapes used in the 2008 version. I would definitely try it again, and I hope it wasn't just a one time good tasting wine.

Blackstone Merlot 2008

Type: Merlot
Year: 2008
Price: 9.99
Rating: 3 - Will try it again
Where Bought: Otto's Brown Deer
Comments: Very similar to its Cabernet Sauvignon counterpart, a very smooth and nice bottle of wine. I cannot definitively say if its as good as its Cabernet, so for now, I'll provide a rating of 3. I would definitely purchase one more time. Perhaps I should try a taste comparison next time. If I do, I'll definitely post the results. However, for now, standing on its own merit, a very nice inexpensive bottle of wine.

Type: Merlot
Year: 2006
Price: 10.99 (Marked down from 11.99)
Rating: 3 - Will try it again

Comments: A very nice wine. Surprisingly, consistent with the 2007 Merlot as well. Good taste, and will probably try it again.

Estancia Merlot 2007

Type: Merlot Central Coast
Year: 2007
Price: 11.99 --> marked down to 10.99
Rating: 3 - Will try it again
Where Bought: Pick N' Save
Comments: Estancia makes a very nice Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Nice Tasting. I will try this wine again, since it has a nice simple, pleasant taste. Not much more to add at this point.

J. Lohr Paso Robles Merlot 2006

Type: Merlot - Paso Robles Merlot - Los Osos Estates
Year: 2006
Price: 11.99 --> 10.99
Rating: 3 - Will try it again
Where Bought: Otto's Brown Deer
Comments: J. Lohr continues to produce nice full bodied wines. I started my liking with their products when I tried their Cabernet. I found that their richness was carried onto the Merlot. I usually like to try a product more than once before I give it a higher rating for consistancy reasons. To see my review of their Cabernet, please click here.

Pedroncelli Merlot 2002

Type: Merlot
Year: 2002
Price: 11.99
Rating: 4 - Would definitely buy again
Where Bought: Otto's Brown Deer
Comments: I was a little worried that this would not live up to the Pedroncelli Cabernet Sauvignon, which I love so much. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Although, strong for a Merlot, it was a full bodied well tasting wine. I would definitely buy it again as one of my favorite Merlot's. Its rare, that a single vineyard could produce both a Merlot and Cab, but its nice to know. Great job, Pedroncelli !

ClosDu Bois Merlot - 2005

Type: Merlot
Year: 2005
Price: 12.99
Rating: 4 - Would definitely buy again
Where Bought: Scotti's Silver Spring
Comments: I would have to say that Clos Du Bois is my favorite when it comes to Merlot's. They never seem to let me down. The only reason for the 4 rating is that I prefer Cabernets. But, for Merlot's, Clos Du Bois is the winner, hands down.

Type: Merlot
Year: 2003
Rating: 5 - One of my favorites
Price: 11.99 (Discounted from 15.99)

Comment: Sonoma County, This Merlot was very nice. The Clos Du Bois Merlot's generally have been consistantly good. Being a 2003, it was stronger in taste. Would buy again.

Cartlidge & Browne - Merlot 2005

Type: Merlot
Year: 2005
Rating: 4 - Would definitely buy it again
Price:10.99
Where Bought: ? I need to keep better track of where I buy these wines....
Comments: This was a nice bottle of wine. Nice Aroma, (none of that wet paper texture), and a nice smooth taste. (I seem to have better luck with Merlot's), over all nice wine, I would definitely buy it again.
